This page explains how to request deletion of your Burden & Grace account, what we delete, what we keep, and how long it takes. If you have any questions, contact us at [email protected].
How to request account deletion
To request that we delete your Burden & Grace account and associated data, follow these steps:
- Send an email to [email protected] from the email address associated with your Burden & Grace account.
- Use the subject line "Account Deletion Request" so we can identify and prioritize your request.
- In the body of the email, confirm you are requesting deletion of your account and all associated data.
- We will acknowledge your request within 3 business days and complete the deletion within 30 days of receiving it.
- You will receive a confirmation email when the deletion is complete.
If you do not have access to the email address on your account, contact us at the same support address and we will work with you to verify your identity through alternative means before proceeding.
What we delete
When you request account deletion, the following data is permanently removed from our systems:
- Your account profile (email address, display name, account preferences)
- Your journal entries (including any client-side-encrypted content stored on our servers)
- Your devotional reading progress and completed days
- Your Bible bookmarks, highlights, and notes
- Your daily reminder and notification preferences
- Your subscription history within our system (the linkage between your account and the subscription)
- Your support correspondence with us, unless retention is required by law (see below)
What we may keep, and for how long
Certain information may be retained after account deletion, but only for the purposes and durations listed below:
- Tax and financial records: If you made purchases through the App, we are legally required to retain transaction records (including the original email address, transaction amounts, and dates) for up to 7 years to comply with U.S. tax and accounting laws. These records are stored separately from your active account data and are not used for any marketing or analytical purpose.
- Payment processor data: Apple, Google, Stripe, and RevenueCat (our payment processors) retain transaction records under their own retention policies, which we cannot delete on your behalf. You can request deletion of your records directly with each processor through their own data deletion procedures.
- Anonymized analytics and aggregate data: We may retain aggregate, non-identifiable usage statistics (for example, "how many users completed a specific track") that contain no information traceable to your account.
- Backup snapshots: Encrypted database backups may contain your data for up to 30 days after deletion before they are rotated out. After that 30-day window, no copy of your data remains.
How long deletion takes
From the time we receive your verified deletion request:
- We acknowledge the request within 3 business days.
- Active account data is deleted within 30 days.
- Backup snapshots containing your data are purged within an additional 30 days as part of our regular backup rotation.
- Tax and financial records are retained for up to 7 years as required by U.S. law.
Deleting some, but not all, of your data
If you would like to delete only part of your data (for example, your journal entries while keeping your account active), email us at [email protected] and we will work with you on a partial deletion. Some data types are required for the App to function (for example, your email address and account ID), and cannot be removed without deleting the account entirely.
Canceling your subscription
Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an active subscription billed by Apple or Google. To stop being billed, cancel your subscription through your device's subscription settings (Apple ID → Subscriptions on iOS, or Google Play → Subscriptions on Android) before requesting account deletion.
